From life to canvas - Transforming a real life photo into a work of art

Change the layer mode to "Linear Burn" from top of the layer palette.

Duplicate the layer. Change the layer mode to "Linear Dodge" from top of the layer palette.

Duplicate the layer again.

From layer menu select "new adjustment layers>>Levels". Apply settings as shown.

From layer menu select "new adjustment layers>>Hue/Saturation". Apply settings as shown.
